Incredible India Series – Humayun’s Tomb

During my stays in New Delhi, one fine day I thought of going to visit Humayun’s Tomb. Located near the crossing of Mathura road and Lodhi road, this magnificent garden tomb is the first substantial example of Mughal architecture in India. Being an Indian I paid Rs.10 but for foreigners they charge Rs.250. Well there is no charge for camera but they don’t allow tripod. I had really hard time with the security guy. Finally they allow me to bring tripod inside after convincing them that I won’t use inside.

It was built in 1565 A.D. nine years after the death of Humayun, by his senior widow Bega Begam. Inside the walled enclosure the most notable features are the garden squares (chaharbagh) with pathways water channels, centrally located well proportional mausoleum topped by double dome.

Hawa Mahal, designed as a beehive castle with small windows, has a height of 50 feet from its base. This structure, erected on a thin shield or podium approximately fifty feet high, has walls less than a foot thick. Constructed of red and pink sandstones by Lal Chand Ustad, Hawa Mahal is famous for its windows or ‘Jharokhas’ which enable free circulation of air within the structure. Its entrance is a door which leads to a spacious courtyard surrounded by two-storey buildings on three sides.

From Land of Sheikhs – Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

Lets end up my Land of Sheikhs with Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. My travel itinerary was packed too many places to less days of stay. I pursued with the faith, sounds hilarious, but believe me Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is a must to visit among all other places. Un doubtfully one can witness the amalgamation traditional designs with amazing modern Architectural features. It took more then three hours just to minutely observe the surrounding. In between I had taken a few shots before the sunset. I kept wondering how the place would be after sunset. My fingers were cross, waiting for it to be dark, fortunately as if my prayers are granted, it has given a quite a real night depiction.
